The First Libyan State..

During the first millennium B.C the military conflict continued between the Semitic civilizations in the orient and the European civilizations of Greece and Rome. North Africa was one of the areas of conflict.
In 631 the Greeks marched to occupy Libya. The Libyan people hurried to Egypt asking for help, the answer was positive, but the Greeks won and because of this, Libya was divided into three equal regions:

1- The western part : Protected by Carthage , and got the chance to built up his prosperous centres in : Leptis Magna , Sabratha ,and Oea ( Tripoli ).

2- The eastern part : The Greeks imposed their Hellenistic style on this part of Libya, and the Ptolemaic Egypt gave enough protection to the people there , to build its prosperous civilized centres in : Cyrene, Ptolemais , Touchira , and Berenici ( Benghazi ) .

3- The southern part : Its role was to open its territories in front of the caravan trade between Egypt : Carthage on one side and between the coastal cities and central African cities on the other side .
